FAQs ABOUT MEDITATION & THE NEW MEETUP SESSIONS
WHAT DOES MEDITATION HAVE TO DO WITH ECKHART’S TEACHINGS?
Meditation is powerful way to directly experience the essence of Eckhart Tolle’s teachings.
In The Power of Now, he invites us to discover the LIFE underneath our life situation. He invites is to:
“Use your senses fully. Be where you are. Look around. Just look, don’t interpret. See the light, shapes, colors, textures. Be aware of the silent presence of each thing. Be aware of the space that allows everything to be. Listen to the sounds; don’t judge them. Listen to the silence underneath the sounds. Touch something – anything – and feel and acknowledge its Being.
Observe the rhythm of your breathing; feel the air flowing in and out, feel the life energy inside your body. Allow everything to be, within and without. Allow the “isness” of all things. Move deeply into the Now.”
This is precisely what we do in our meditation sessions.
We experience the Now more deeply. We cultivate awareness while nurturing acceptance and a deep inner peace. We also learn how to practice these techniques outside of the class, so we can be fully present, peaceful, and joyful even through the challenges of daily life.
WHY ELSE WOULD I WANT TO MEDITATE?
Lots of research is emerging from the scientific community about the benefits of meditation. Follow this link for a great summary of “20 reasons to meditate.”
HOW ARE THESE SESSIONS DIFFERENT FROM OUR USUAL MEETUPS?
Our “classic” meetups focus more directly on Eckhart’s teachings and have a more extended sharing period. In those classes, we listen to Eckhart for about 45 minutes and then reflect.
While listening to Eckhart is a wonderful experience in itself, actually doing the practices that he describes is a powerful way to directly experience and cultivate presence in your life.
In these new sessions, we use meditation to connect to the the inner body, settle our minds, observe silence, awaken to the flow of life, and SOAR in the vastness of the NOW.
We use Eckhart’s teachings as a starting point, usually with a brief reading from The Power of Now or A New Earth. Our session is then evolves into a relaxing and awakening meditative experience. As we learn how to meditate and as we meditate together, we share the powerful transformation that arises in a supportive group setting.
WHAT IF I CAN’T STOP MY MIND FROM THINKING? CAN I STILL MEDITATE?
An excellent question asked by all meditators.
Our minds are always full of thoughts, sensations, and emotions. In mindfulness meditation, we do not try to push them away. Instead, we learn to accept them as part of the present moment. We learn to simply observe as they arise, take shape, come across our awareness, and then pass away.
This is a great perspective to hold when dealing with distracting or obsessive thoughts, anxieties, or worries. This perspective frees us from the grip of thinking and allows us to experience the fullness of the Now more easily and more frequently.
Watch this short video where I share how thoughts, sensations, and emotions are actually at the core of my meditation practice.
